Apple has opened Siri AI, the more conversational and personal version of its assistant, to apps from any developer. In a post on its developer news site on November 3, the company announced a Siri AI Developer Preview that begins with the 27.3 betas of iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.
How apps plug into Siri AI
The integration runs through App Intents, the framework Apple already uses to describe what an app can do. Developers declare the content and actions they want Siri AI to reach, and Apple says the assistant can then apply its understanding of personal context, what is on screen and natural phrasing, so that users can ask in their own words to track a delivery, book a table or place an order. Siri does not get blanket access: only what the app exposes is available.
For more complex requests, developers can define skills that combine several actions into a single flow. Apple also says Siri AI can surface any item stored in the Spotlight semantic index, even when it does not match one of the predefined schemas. Apple's own apps, including Mail, Maps, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Safari and Finder, are gaining similar capabilities, which developers can study as examples. According to iClarified, existing App Intents code can be adapted without a new entitlement, and Xcode adds a Siri Integration Advisor plus an evaluation framework for testing how Siri responds to requests.
Limits and open questions
The preview is early access. iClarified reports that integrations can run only in development-signed builds and internal TestFlight builds, not in external TestFlight or on the App Store. Apple says the features will reach customers in a few months and that App Store submissions open in the spring, which iClarified places in 2027.
Apple has not yet published the terms and usage policies for Siri AI experiences and says they will follow. Its footnotes add that server-side Apple Intelligence features such as Siri AI carry daily usage limits and that expanded access will cost extra in the future, without giving prices.
Availability is also restricted. Siri AI needs an Apple Intelligence-capable device set to English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish, with Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese listed as coming soon. It is not offered to users under 13 and remains unavailable in the EU on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch; Apple says it is working with the EU on a path forward.
