THE ESSENTIALS IN 30 SECONDS

  • Announced November 5, Cuttlefish is an iOS app in public preview for supervising agent sessions running on DigitalOcean Managed Agents.
  • Users can approve or deny tool calls after seeing the full command, file path or diff, send corrections, pause, or stop a run; risky actions require Face ID or a passcode.
  • Box is the launch partner: a Box Mount integration, in private preview, syncs a chosen Box folder into agent workspaces under each user's own Box permissions.

DigitalOcean announced Cuttlefish on November 5, a native iPhone app for supervising AI agents that run on its Managed Agents service. The cloud provider pitches it as a way to keep a person in charge of key agent decisions without being tied to a desk. The app is in public preview on the App Store, and the company named Box as its launch partner.

What the app does

According to DigitalOcean's documentation, Cuttlefish streams an agent's replies, reasoning and tool calls as a session runs. When a permission policy is set to "ask", the agent waits until the user approves or denies the request, and the app displays the full command, file path or diff beforehand. Denials can include a reason. Requests the app considers risky, such as recursive deletes, force-pushes, sudo or piping an internet script into a shell, are flagged, and allowing them requires Face ID or the device passcode.

Users can also send corrections mid-run, pause a session (which suspends compute but keeps the workspace), stop it, browse files and manage checkpoints. Notifications arrive when approval is needed or when a run finishes or fails. Because agents and sandboxes run in DigitalOcean microVMs, sessions continue if the phone is locked or offline. The company lists supported agent harnesses including Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, OpenHands, LangGraph and CrewAI. The app requires iOS 26.5 or later and a team with Managed Agents access.

The Box integration

The Box partnership centres on Box Mount, which is in private preview. It syncs a Box folder, chosen in Cuttlefish, into every session of an environment; the agent works on ordinary files, and its edits and deletions sync back to Box. Each person connects their own Box account, so existing permissions, version history and audit trails apply, according to the announcement.

Limits and open questions

The documentation lists things the app cannot do: answer an agent's questions, create or edit toolsets, or perform in-depth code review. iOS also controls background timing, so notifications may be delayed. Managed Agents itself remains in public preview, and the release says preview services are not supported for production workloads. No separate price for the app was stated; DigitalOcean says the runtime bills on active CPU use, so time spent waiting for approval costs little. HostingJournalist noted that phone approvals could make weak review processes easier to rush, and that complex decisions may need more context than a mobile screen provides.
