THE ESSENTIALS IN 30 SECONDS
- Copilot now works inside Xcode's own coding assistant as a public preview, starting with Xcode 27.3 beta on macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later, for all Copilot plans.
- In JetBrains Air, Copilot connects through the Agent Client Protocol and can run several agent sessions locally or cloud tasks through Air Teams, billed to the Copilot plan.
- VS Code 1.145 lets local automations run on cron schedules with workspace custom agents, and the Copilot app gains Agent Merge for pull requests.
GitHub's weekly Copilot changelog, published on November 6, gathers several updates from the past few days. The most notable for developers are two new places where Copilot can run: inside Apple's Xcode and inside JetBrains Air. Smaller changes arrive in VS Code and in the GitHub Copilot app.
Copilot inside Xcode's own assistant
Until now, Copilot users on Apple platforms relied on a separate GitHub Copilot for Xcode extension. Since November 4, Copilot can also be selected directly in Xcode's built-in coding assistant. GitHub labels the integration a public preview. It starts with the first beta of Xcode 27.3, which requires a Mac running macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later, and GitHub says every Copilot plan is supported. Developers set it up under Xcode's Intelligence settings. The standalone extension remains available.
According to iPhoneSoft, Copilot joins assistants Xcode already supports, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Codex. The same beta ships Swift 6.4. GitHub's post does not say which models are offered through the integration or whether usage limits differ from other editors.
Agent sessions in JetBrains Air
On November 3, GitHub added Copilot to JetBrains Air, an environment for handing coding tasks to agents, monitoring them and reviewing the results. Copilot connects through the Agent Client Protocol (ACP) and appears in Air's agent picker with an existing subscription. Users can run several sessions in parallel in their IDE, or launch cloud tasks through Air Teams. GitHub says those tasks run in a Docker container on a fresh virtual machine, with traffic routed through a proxy and nothing kept between tasks.
There are caveats. The Air plugin for local tasks is labelled alpha, and cloud tasks require a business organization with Air Teams enabled. Cloud work draws on the Copilot plan rather than JetBrains AI credits. Air's governance and analytics do not cover Copilot usage, and administrators cannot set Copilot spending limits within Air.
VS Code automations and Agent Merge
VS Code 1.145 lets local automations run recurring tasks on a schedule, now with cron expressions and custom agents defined in the workspace. In the GitHub Copilot app, Agent Merge can be enabled from a pull request so that Copilot merges it once it is ready; GitHub says the setting stays active while required checks or rules are pending. The roundup gives no preview or general-availability label for either feature.
