BEST FOR

  • Sketching song ideas from a short description
  • Setting your own lyrics to music
  • Exporting stems for further editing in a DAW

What it does

Suno generates full songs, with vocals, lyrics and production, from a prompt describing genre, mood or theme. Users can also paste their own lyrics, upload audio, or record a few seconds of their voice so that Suno sings with it. Generated tracks can be split into time-aligned stems for use in other software. Paying subscribers get further tools such as custom models and personas, and the top plan adds Suno Studio, a browser-based workstation for arranging, editing and mixing with MIDI, effects and automation. Suno works in the browser, and mobile apps for iOS and Android are in limited release.

Pricing and plans

The free plan gives 50 credits a day (Suno says about 10 songs), uses the v6-mini model, has no monthly song downloads and grants no commercial rights. Pro is listed at $8 per month with 2,500 monthly credits, the v6 and v6-wild models, 20 song downloads a month, commercial use and a priority queue. Premier is listed at $24 per month with 10,000 credits, 60 downloads, Suno Studio and advanced stem separation. The pricing page states that yearly billing saves $24 (Pro) and $72 (Premier) a year, and that taxes are calculated at checkout. Paid users can buy extra credits and, after using their monthly allowance, still receive up to 50 credits a day. Prices are shown in dollars and may vary by region.

Strengths and limits

Suno makes it quick to go from an idea to a finished-sounding track, and paid plans give subscribers ownership and commercial use of what they create. Limits: free songs cannot be used commercially, downloads are capped per plan, unused daily credits do not carry over, and the most advanced editing sits on Premier. Results depend heavily on prompts, and users should check Suno's terms for how ownership and rights apply to their specific use.
