BEST FOR
- Connecting SaaS apps without code
- Running AI agents across business tools
- Building customer-facing chatbots
What it does
Zapier is a web-based automation service. Its core building block, the Zap, is a workflow that starts when something happens in one app and then performs actions in others; the company says it connects with more than 9,000 apps. Around that core, Zapier sells several AI products. Zapier Agents are configurable AI assistants that can be given company knowledge and carry out tasks across connected apps; a Chrome extension lets users chat with an agent while browsing, summarise a page or trigger actions. Chatbots answer questions from FAQs, documents and public links, mainly for support and lead capture. The platform also offers Tables, Forms, AI fields inside workflows, a Copilot that helps build automations (labelled beta) and an MCP server available on all accounts, where each MCP tool call consumes two tasks.
Pricing and plans
Automation plans are billed by the number of tasks run each month. The Free plan costs nothing and includes 100 tasks per month, two-step Zaps and a single user. Professional starts at $19.99 per month and unlocks multi-step Zaps, premium apps, webhooks and AI fields. Team starts at $69 per month for up to 25 users with shared workspaces and SAML SSO; Enterprise is quoted on request. AI Agents and Chatbots are priced separately: Agents have a free tier with 400 activities per month and a Pro tier at $33.33 per month billed annually; Chatbots range from a free tier with two bots to paid tiers billed annually. The pricing page advertises a discount for yearly billing and lists checkout in many currencies, so the amount paid may vary by region and tax.
Strengths and limits
Zapier's main asset is the breadth of its app catalogue and a no-code editor that suits non-developers. The flip side is cost predictability: prices climb with task volume, and Zapier says that going beyond the plan's quota switches to pay-per-task billing at a higher rate. Several AI features (Copilot, AI troubleshooting, custom actions) are still marked as beta. The Agents Chrome extension works only in Google Chrome. Zapier is a closed, hosted service; teams that need self-hosting usually look at open-source tools such as n8n.
