BEST FOR

  • Posters and graphics with readable text
  • Stickers and print designs with transparent backgrounds
  • Keeping a character consistent across images

What it does

Ideogram generates images from text prompts and puts particular weight on typography: words placed in quotation marks in the prompt are rendered as text in the image, and misspelled words can be fixed afterwards with editing tools in its Studio. Available models include Ideogram 3.0 (with style presets, style references, negative prompts and colour palettes), Ideogram 4.5 and GPT Image 2.5, depending on the account. Ideogram 4.5 can keep a character consistent using one to five reference images, and a transparent-background model suits stickers and print. Ideogram works on the web, has an iOS app, and offers a developer API and an MCP server for connecting it to AI assistants.

Pricing and plans

A free plan gives 30 credits per week to accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft; accounts created with email and password get no free credits. According to Ideogram's documentation, Plus costs $20 per month or $15 per month billed yearly ($180), and Pro costs $60 per month or $42 per month billed yearly ($504), with prices in US dollars before tax. Pro adds batch generation and a larger generation queue. Monthly credits do not roll over, but purchased top-up credits do. A pay-as-you-go option and team and enterprise plans are also listed.

Strengths and limits

Text rendering is the main reason to choose it over general image generators, though the vendor's own help pages acknowledge that words sometimes come out wrong and need a retry or an edit. Everything created on the free plan is public; on Plus and Pro new images stay private until published. Some AI editing features need priority credits and are not available in the slow queue. Commercial use is governed by the terms of service, which users should read.
