What it does
Midjourney is an image generator: you describe a scene in a text prompt and it returns images based on that description. It also generates video, in standard definition on every plan and in HD from the Standard plan up. It can be used on midjourney.com or through the Midjourney bot on Discord, including in direct messages with the bot. Generated images appear in the user's gallery on the Midjourney website.
Pricing and plans
There is no free plan, and the vendor says no free trial is currently offered on Discord or the website; a limited trial exists only in its separate niji·journey mobile app. Four subscriptions are listed, in US dollars: Basic at $10 per month (about 3.3 hours of fast GPU time), Standard at $30 (15 hours, plus unlimited image generation in the slower Relax mode), Pro at $60 (30 hours, Relax mode for images and SD video, and Stealth mode) and Mega at $120 (60 hours). Annual billing gives a 20% discount, bringing Basic to $96 per year. Extra fast GPU time costs $4 per hour. Subscriptions renew automatically. Prices may vary with local tax.
Strengths and limits
Usage is measured in GPU time rather than a fixed number of images, so the number of outputs depends on the settings and on video use. Content is visible to others by default: the plans page states that only Stealth mode, available on Pro and Mega, keeps images and videos private. Companies with more than $1 million in annual gross revenue must take the Pro or Mega plan. Content and moderation rules apply to every generation, including in private messages with the bot. There is no official API listed on the pages consulted.
