What it does

Synthesia is a web platform for making videos in which an AI avatar presents a script. Users pick a stock avatar or record themselves to create a personal avatar, choose among hundreds of AI voices, and assemble scenes from templates for training, sales, support or product updates. Voiceover and translation cover more than 140 languages, and AI dubbing can translate an existing video while keeping the speaker's voice and lip-sync. Teams can comment and review in shared workspaces with brand kits, publish through shareable or SSO-protected pages, or export SCORM packages for learning systems. An API covers video creation, dubbing and interactive avatars.

Pricing and plans

Synthesia now bills in credits; the pricing page lists about 100 credits per minute of video, with the first 10 minutes a month included on every plan. The free Basic plan includes 500 credits, nine avatars and a Synthesia watermark. Starter costs $19 per month billed monthly (with a discounted first month) and includes 1,250 credits, 125+ avatars, downloads and logo removal. Pro costs $89 per month with 6,000 credits, 180+ avatars, branded video pages and interactive videos; larger credit tiers are available. Enterprise is priced on request and adds SAML/SSO, SCORM export and more avatars. The page mentions savings with yearly billing but does not show annual prices. Figures are shown in dollars and may vary by region and tax.

Strengths and limits

Synthesia suits organizations that need many consistent, multilingual explainer videos without cameras or studios. The company says it is SOC 2 compliant, moderates content and labels AI-generated videos in line with Article 50 of the EU AI Act, and that avatars are created with consent. Limits: the format is mostly a presenter talking over slides or B-roll, so it is less suited to cinematic or creative video. Credit use rises with dubbing, surveys and extra minutes, and some features (personal avatars, roleplay sessions, guest seats) are capped per plan.
