BEST FOR
- Building short scenes with consistent characters
- Turning start and end frames into a video clip
- Experimenting with Veo for users of Google AI plans
What it does
Flow is a filmmaking tool from Google Labs, launched in May 2025 as the successor to the VideoFX experiment. It generates video clips from text prompts, from start and end frames, or from "ingredients" (reference images of characters, objects or styles), and lets users extend clips and assemble scenes. Video models currently include Veo 3.1 in Lite, Fast and Quality versions and Gemini Omni Flash 1.1, which adds 10-second clips, 360p drafts at half the credit cost and editing of uploaded or generated videos. Images used as frames or ingredients come from Google's Nano Banana models. Flow works on the web and also has Android and iPhone/iPad versions, with credits shared across devices.
Pricing and plans
Flow runs on credits. Without a subscription, users get 50 credits a day, but video generation is blocked at peak times (roughly 2 to 5 pm UTC) and images remain available. Google AI plans add monthly credits on top of the daily allowance: Google AI Plus ($4.99 per month in the US) adds 200, Google AI Pro ($19.99) adds 1,000, and Google AI Ultra, listed from $99.99 with a $199.99 tier, adds 10,000 or 25,000. Monthly and daily credits do not roll over; subscribers can buy extra AI credits in supported regions, except Japan. Prices vary by country and tax.
Strengths and limits
Flow puts Google's latest video models in an interface designed for shot-by-shot work, and the free daily credits make it possible to test it without paying. Limits: feature support differs between models (for example, Veo 3.1 Quality does not support ingredients or extension, and no Veo model edits existing video), the most capable models and higher allowances depend on paid Google AI plans, and Google says some Omni features and voice options are restricted in certain regions. The credit cost per clip depends on the model and resolution chosen.
